The interventions the professional nurse provides to patients are all derived from evidence-based research. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a term that has come into frequent use in healthcare. It is the driving force for many quality improvement initiatives and the standardization of healthcare practice and policies (Brower, 2017). While caring for patients during Acute Care I and II clinical one must begin to priorities each individual needs. Caring for a patient during my med-surgical clinical at Via Christi the patient began to complain of left breast pain and swelling. The patient suffered from anxiety so anything would cause her to become agitated. The patient had crepitus and the doctor informed her that he would be removing the old chest tube and placing another chest tube in to remove the air and she would be moved to the ICU. The patient began crying and stating to me, “Am I going to die?” I stayed with the patient and comforted her while she was going through this experience. I understood my place was not to say she would not die but comfort her during her time of need. I know as a nurse we want to tell all our patients they will live forever, but the biggest lesson I learned this day was in that moment the patient’s greatest need was me holding her hand, giving a hug, and keeping the focus on
