There was a time where I knew a shy boy with imaginative ideas. He often thought that he had superpowers, ones that can manipulate the way the water flows or move objects with his mind. He was a good kid with good intentions, but he never talked, only with the very few amount of people he was close to. In class, he never rose his hand and was never one to volunteer to help. He seemed scared. There was another boy who spoke in front of his entire school. He talked to strangers by making small talk and relating to what they would say. He did not want to be the shy kid who lacked confidence anymore. He was tired of not using his superpowers to make the world a better place. Instead, he developed new skills -- skills that required him to make others informed about the community they live in. I am that kid. …show more content…
By joining the high school’s daily news program, I unintentionally removed my mask, exposing my true identity. While the comfort zone was a great place to be in, no part of me every grew. I now sit at the news desk speaking in front of over 2,000 students and faculty. I now schedule interviews to help move my news story along. I now approach strangers asking them their opinions on newsworthy topics. I now utilize social media to my advantage as it familiarizes me with trends in society on both on a local and nationwide level.
My greatest talent might not be saving the world from evil villains and monsters; instead, it is me being comfortable and happy with who I am

As a formerly quiet and shy young professional, although I was often recognized for exhibiting strong written communication skills, I previously considered my verbal skills as one of my largest weaknesses. To overcome this weakness, I participated in a number of communication, public speaking, and leadership workshops that helped me hone my ability to not merely communicate, but to communicate effectively. I also participated in volunteer opportunities that required me to engage in public speaking and presentations to increase my level of comfort with communicating in large groups. For example, since 2011, I have volunteered as an English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor by teaching…
