My Trip To Colorado-Personal Narrative Analysis

When I was younger, my parents often took my brother, Caleb, and me on many trips. We went on a variety of vacations, but one of my favorite places to go was Colorado. I loved cold climates, cloudy places, and in Colorado I can find these and more. My favorite types of climates are freezing temperatures, cloudy, and rainy. In 2007 my dad had bought two four-wheelers, and the people knew my dad well and when we bought them, they told us they were going to Ouray, Colorado and asked if we wanted to join them. My dad said okay and we were off. Ouray is southwest part of Colorado in the rocky mountains and we went during July. It was a sixteen hour trip, and when you are in a cramped truck with a brother complaining all the time it became a very long trip. The first day we had arrived it was late, so all we did was unpack. The next morning we went out early to get everything ready. We had to pack a lunch, fill up the gas tanks, and make sure you had medical supplies and extra clothes. Once we had everything together, we loaded up the trailer and headed to the parking lot at the bottom of the mountain. This area is where you can leave your truck and trailer if you just want to take a ATV, four-wheeler, etc. When we first took off …show more content…

As the powerful Colorado River churned beneath me, as it has for centuries, and the relentless sun peaked over the top of the North Rim, I could not help but feel astounded. I was in a timeless place: a place disconnected from the society I had left behind miles ago. Down here, in the lowest section of the Grand Canyon, it was just me, my friends, and the heat. Always the heat. We had started our journey, a run from the Grand Canyon’s North Rim to the South Rim, at 4 AM in a futile attempt to avoid the skyrocketing temperature and finish before the sun became the determining factor in the success of our venture.…

Growing up in Vail, I would often ride the chair lift with strangers and they would ask, “Where are you from?” I would reply “here.” The people I shared the chairlift with would tell me how lucky I was, but I would just smile politely and nod, unaware of my fortune. I had grown up in mountains and didn’t know anything different. As I have gotten older and been fortunate enough to have traveled outside of my familiar mountain range, I have realized how intensely beautiful mountains are.…

I saw only darkness, save the faint glow of lava rocks in a small hole dug in front of me. I breathe in what should be steaming hot air, but it is dry, yet so hot. Even growing up in Tucson where the summer heat can reach 110 degrees, I’ve never experienced something quite like this. I wished I was playing out in that summer heat, this felt like I was being cooked in an oven. I breathe in again, more dry air.…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…

In January of last year I went on a trip to Colorado on a "college visit" with a friend and my father to University of Colorado Boulder. We left Wednesday night, skipping school both Thursday and Friday. We did go to the college and took a tour of the campus on Thursday which I greatly enjoyed, it is beautiful out there and at elevation there is very little humidity. The true intention of the trip, as important as the college visit was, was to go to Breckenridge Resort and spend the weekend snowboarding. A couple of my dad's friends were also going and we were going to share their timeshare.…
