Right after my visa approval, I bought my plane ticket for $1470 and traveled alone for the first time in my life. During the trip, we landed in Brussels (Belgium) and went on to Washington, DC where I changed airplanes. I left my home at 8:30 GMT+1 and I traveled at 11:55 PM. The trip was very long; it took us 8 hours to land on the Brussels international airport, where we spent 6 hours waiting for another plane. At 12:30 GMT+1, we left Brussels to Washington, DC where we landed at 2:30 GMT-6. Then I waited for the last plane from Washington to DFW that took 3 more hours before arriving in Dallas at 7:35 Central American time. At the airport, I met my driver who drove me to an electronics store and then to my host family. Culturally, I faced food differences between the U.S and the Congo. For instance, in the U.S for breakfast people eat cereal, eggs, bread, etc. for lunch they eat fast food and for dinner they eat hearty food. Unlike the U.S in my country and especially in my family, we eat energetic food in the morning, slight food during the day and hearty food for dinner. And also the quality and quantity of food are different due to geographical locations. Besides food, I also challenged several social problems in different situations. For example, in my country people are not really strangers to each other. We greet each other in public transportations; we help each other in different ways; we talk to each other like brothers. The same thing happens when we meet each other abroad. People can think that we have known each other for a while. In contrast, people in the U.S are animated by the civil inattention. No one cares about another on the street. I seat close to people in a bus or a train, nobody say “Hi” to me. Everyone has headphones in his ears. That is considered as a bad behavior in the African
