My Travel Experiences: My Journey To The Philippines

Ever since I was a little girl, I have been fond of traveling. I would always get excited to walk into the Oakland Airport and carry my little suitcase around with me. Back then, it was the biggest dream of mine to become an international flight attendant, allowing me to explore different places around the globe. My mom was working as a flight attendant even before I was born and the very first time I flew on a plane was when I was still her womb! When my two other siblings were born, my mom would always take us with her on her flights around the West Coast. Even when we were all still messy little kids, my mom always taught us about the importance of being tidy, organized and respectful of other people’s space.

In my opinion, the world is such a diverse place with so many different countries with varying beliefs and cultures. No two countries are the same and I first learned that when I first moved to the Philippines. At first, I was shocked when I saw striking contrasts between both of the countries like in culture, people and way of life. The Philippines is still a developing country and there are many challenges that the Filipino people must face. In the Philippines, there is such a disparity between the rich and the poor. By directing seeing this kind of lifestyle of the Filipino people, I realized that there are millions of people and children that fall victims to poverty. My eyes have been opened to the very serious issues that our world is facing. I believe that people should be more aware of these problems from poverty, to discrimination, to racism, to war and to climate …show more content…
One of my favorite quotes comes from Mahatma Gandhi says “You must be the change you want to see in the world.” I’ve learned that the only thing that I have control of is myself; therefore, change should start with myself. As my legacy, I want to make an impact in the lives of those that are facing injustice and can't freely express their rights. I want to be a voice for those that can’t speak for themselves and fight for those that are deprived of their basic

Small Groups, Big Impact Have you ever felt like the odds were against you? Like there were no hopes in fixing a global issue because you were only one person? From the essay “How to Melt the Arctic,” written by John Bocknek, he says, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” The author enforces that no matter the problem, a person or a group of people can change a global issue. In today’s society, people underestimate the impact that they have if they work by themselves or even in an organization.…

Taking a Stand on Justice Argument Essay Bishop Desmond Tutu a leader who stood up for the rights of south africans, once said “...if an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you that you are neutral that mouse will not appreciate your neutrality”. As if the elephant represents the educated or powerful , and the mouse represents the uneducated or minority. As society stays neutral even knowing that the mouse can't stand a chance against the elephant. It is important for people to take a stand on issues of justice in society, to change what’s wrong to right, to stand up for thoses who can’t stand up for themselves and to treat everyone equal no matter the race, gender or social class.…

"Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world ...would do this, it would change the world" William Faulkner. Some people would say that any kind of resistance to laws would be a negative impact on a free society, I on the other hand I believe it can actually create a positive impact on a free society. Doctor Martian Luther king Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, and Guatemala recent protest are all examples of how peaceful and positive protest can change a society for the better. When vacationing in Peru I was unable to use most of my technology I had. However, it allowed me to enjoy it more without the distractions. I was able to bond more with the people there and had a great time. Every year I volunteer at a camp for 3 weeks where no technology is allowed and it did not affect my attitude and did not take away any enjoyment of being at camp. I can adapt to different settings very easily mostly because I don't have much preference to temperature or foods so most people describe me as someone who is very easy going and willing to try new things easily.…

The Philippines have been colonized by the Spaniards and the Americans for centuries, and these two cultures have had a significant impact on the Filipino culture and their identity. Martin and Nakayama note Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck research on cultural values claims that, “Values are the most deeply felt beliefs shared by a cultural group; they reflect a shared perception of what ought to be, and not what is” (p. 99). The Filipinos culture has had influences from civilization prior to the Spanish occupation, Spanish colonization, and American society. Oreiro (2014) mentions, “Unlike many others within the Pan-Asian grouping, Filipinos have the distinction of being the only groups of immigrants to come from an American colony” (p. 6). In order…
