The drive over there was safe and we were having a good time. During the ride we were listening to the radio, talking, and just genuinely having a good time. The first place we stopped was at a makeup store called Ulta because I needed to pick up a few things. We took our time in the store and looked around, but we started to get a little hungry so we decided to go get some lunch at McDonald’s. We got our food and left to go by the river that runs through the city and draw. We got back on the highway and so far everything was okay. She pulled up to a stop light and my friend got in the lane to turn. I was using my phone for directions and repeating to her the way it was telling us to go. She turned on her blinker and looked both ways and the path seemed clear. We started to turn and the next thing I know we’re stopped and my friend is yelling and asking if I am okay. I sat there for a minute in shock. I didn’t really know what had happened; it kind of seem like everything just stopped, or like time had moved in slow motion. I have panic attacks almost every time I get in the car and I honestly wonder if I will ever be able to drive myself. My 16th birthday is in less than two weeks and I am even scared to take my driver’s test. But, with the bad comes the good. I am definitely much more cautious when driving now which is extremely good for myself and those around me. I also cherish things a lot more because I realize how quickly things can be taken from you. Life can be gone in the blink of an eye so now I always make sure to tell my family I love them before they go anywhere (I am actually quite obsessive about it and I get nervous if I forget to tell them that). The biggest lessons learned are to always be aware of your surroundings (especially when driving), and to live each day like it’s your last because it can literally be over in the blink of an
