Personal Narrative: My Uncle

Improved Essays
My uncle Barney is not a sentimental person, in any sense. He isn’t much of a hugger or emotion filled, other than the times he’s yelling a line of curse words and assaulting one’s ears while watching football. Although he doesn’t show it in the most upfront way, I know my uncle cares. He cares enough to do things with my siblings and I that even my own father wouldn’t. Sometimes he even acts so much like a dad, that I slip up and call him that. The relationship between my uncle and I has changed vastly over the years, but only because we’ve both changed as well. Even though we have our disagreements, Barney will always be my favorite uncle, and even one of my most tolerable family members. My uncle Barney comes across as a simple guy, but truthfully, he’s endlessly complex and hard to understand.

When I was a kid, my uncle Barney was my favorite person in the world, not to say he isn’t still now. He was the one who would buy me cheese balls and let me eat as much of the bag as my little heart desired. He’d let my sister and I sing karaoke on our High School Musical game as loudly as we wanted to even though I know we sounded horrid and he had to plug his ears at times. My uncle’s house was the best place I could be when I

He now works as loss prevention at Younker’s. After my uncle landed a job we all noticed an emotional change in him. He was in better moods and just seemed happier overall. He’s still paranoid about paying everyone back whenever he has the chance, but he doesn’t stress out about anything anymore. Sure he isn’t quite as flippant with his money as he was when my siblings and I were kids, but he’s still always trying to buy me cookies and a Mountain Dew when I’m at his house. He’s still the one I go to if I want to go see my boyfriend, he even drove him home in early morning after all the prom festivities. My uncle Barney just wants to make us all happy, even if he denies that

I chose to write journal entries about the book Ellen Foster written by Kaye Gibbons. Each of the journal entries are written by Ellen showing her perspectives over different scenarios throughout the book. The first journal entry she writes is about her dad being an abusive father. She writes about how she is tired of being abused and she ends up finding another place to go. The second journal entry is saying how she was only able to stay at her Aunt's house for a short while until she had to go back to her father's house.…

One time when my son was admitted to the hospital, my uncle was the only person who daily visited him to know about my son’s health. He was the person who donated his blood without being asked. He called me and showed up on and off just to check if I need any help, because he knew that I was alone and my husband was not in a town at that time. Earlier like other people, I also considered him as a bad uncle, but now after realizing his life, I understand that he is not such a bad person as I imagined him. The family has misunderstood him, although there is a reason for his harsh attitude as his wife left him alone, such distress emotions make him behave like…

Up until now, masculinity has been defined by a certain set of guidelines described well by Joe Ehrmann. The first of them is “billfold”, which refers to monetary gain and how much money someone makes as a way to describe if they are successful. The next is “ballfield”, which talks about athleticism and how those who can do more physically should be seen as better as someone else. The final description is “bedroom” and is very objectifying to women because it thinks of those who have many partners in ben to be the most popular. Society has believed that this is what a “man” needs to be happy and to be successful.…

If you ever had a conversation with someone and they ask you who you are 90 seconds from when you introduced yourself, you might be dealing with a person who has had a traumatic brain injury. My brother Lester was first diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia at the age of sixteen. Paranoid schizophrenics often have false delusions and auditory hallucinations, causing them to see things-people or objects that aren’t really there or to hear voices no one else can hear. It’s difficult for schizophrenics to differentiate between their illness and reality. For the most part, they can’t. It was hard for my family to accept the diagnosis, but we learned to deal with it.…
