Fat Intake Reflection

Did your total fat intake equal about 25-30% of your total calorie intake for the day, with saturated fats accounting for no more than 7% of the total fat intake?

My total fat intake did not equal about 25% - 30% of my total calorie intake for the day. My total fat intake for October 20 was only 24% of my total calorie intake. I was actually quite surprised that I did not make the recommended amount for this day. I clearly ate foods that were high in fat such as avocado and peanut butter, but I still did not manage to make the daily recommended amount of fat indicated by my DRI. In terms of the amount of saturated fats, 6% of the fat that I consumed that day came from saturated fats, hence I did manage to stay within the frame recommended.

I am a full-time student and I intern 24 hours a week, so planning my meals is sometimes really hard and most of the time, I just decipher what I am going to have in the moment. Furthermore, since I am pre-diabetic, I follow a completely different nutrition regimen. I attempt to divide my food intake in the following manner: 60% protein, 30% carbohydrates and 10% fats. This is because I suffer from hyperinsulinism and consuming lots of carbohydrates, especially complex carbohydrates, worsens this condition. This exercise, did made me notice that sometimes my caloric intake is way too low. For the day that I chose to report the numbers were fairly similar to those from the DRI, however for other days, my caloric intake was extremely low. For one day, the only thing I had to eat was black coffee in the morning and then 3 slices of pizza at night. This is clearly not healthy and this exercise made me realize that to follow a "healthy diet" one must always be conscious of the things that one is putting, or not putting is one 's

My trans-fat levels were, .5 g but my total fat levels were 71g, which wasn’t higher than my DRI, but I should lower. My carbohydrate levels were low, the recommendation is 303-438g and I was at, 223 g. This is surprising to me because I always think that I am eating too many carbs, I usually do eat pasta and starch rich foods often, I believe that if I picked a different day, my levels would be out of range. My fiber levels were very low, recommended was 38 g and I only had 17g. I could raise this by changing my granola bars I eat to fiber one bars, after reading their nutrition labels, this could possibly help me raise my levels. Water, a very important…

Additionally, I often will eat only a salad and fruit for lunch. Though all of these foods are filling, they have a relatively low amount of calories, thus leaving me below my recommended intake. I did, however, do well in the area of empty calories. It was recommended that I consume less than 258 empty calories each day, and I fulfilled this by consuming an average of 247 empty calories. Again, this is likely due to the choices I make such as eating many fruits and vegetables and avoiding excess consumption of foods with added fat and sugar, such as sugary beverages, processed foods, and…

According to nutritiondata.com, I was recommended to eat 2,369 calories a day. I did not meet my recommended calorie count on any of the three days I recorded, which means I also did not meet my estimated daily energy expenditure. I believe I did not meet my recommendations because I held a belief that 2,000 calories should be a limit to your food intake. However, in my case, the website says eating 2,369 calories a day would maintain my current weight. On Day 1 (13 October), I met all macronutrient (carbohydrates, fats and protein) ranges.…

Although this is very close to 100% I did not met my DRI recommendation. However, with increase in meats, vegetables, and whole grain like stated before my intake of vitamin B6 would be satisfactory. My average intake of folate is 202 μg. However, my DRI recommendation for folate is 400 μg. In other words, I only met 50.4% of my DRI which clearly shows that I failed to meet the DRI recommendation.…

I thought it was important to keep to my normal habit for the sake of the experiment, but more importantly I was too lazy to go out of my way to eat perfectly healthy. The only thing I had outside the foods list was I had two donuts in the morning. Usually around breakfast time is when I stray away from the foods I should be eating, like bagels, pop tarts, cereal, and donuts. I do this because it is easier to prepare the non-healthy foods compared to a healthy…

The things I struggled with a lot with this data collection on our eating habits was sticking to healthy food, but that didn’t work out because I consumed a number of frozen pizzas and also takeout food. Just alone a pizza, supreme, Original rang up 1,800 calories. That number of calories in one meal takes up about ¼ of my daily intake of close to 5,000 Kcals. That’s where I started to notice that I was consuming so much food at once and waiting a long spanned of time to eat again. Even when I did eat it was small, which cut me short of my goal.…
