I’ve had a passion for origami from a young age. My interest when my uncle introduced me to a paper crane. I was very fascinated by it and decided to take it upon myself to learn more origami. Personally, I enjoy origami and I think it will benefit myself and others who share this passion or just want to try something new. My 3 main questions for my passion project are: what is origami? How can I instruct others interested in creating origami? How will this benefit others as well as myself? Origami is a proven way to develop mindfulness and concentration which I will explain in further detail in Part 3. Origami comes from two words which are: ori meaning "folding", and kami meaning "paper" is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture. The word "origami" is used as a term for folding practices. Traditional origami experts generally don’t use scissors, glue, or markings on paper. The techniques of origami are also used in packaging and other engineering applications.
The small number of basic origami folds can be combined in a variety of ways to make different designs. The best-known origami model is the Japanese paper crane. In general, these designs begin with a square sheet of paper whose sides may be different colours, prints, or patterns.
Where did Origami originate?
The beginnings of origami are still a mystery. Some origami historians argue that since the invention of paper was around 206 bc in China, people thought that paper folding must have been invented soon after, given the human tendency to create and explore new uses of things. Paper was then introduced to Japan in the late sixth century by Buddhist monks, and paper folding was brought along with it. In Japan, paper was expensive and not available to everyone, though it was used in many aspects of Japanese life, mostly in architecture. Certain origami models such as butterflies were incorporated into religious ceremonies. However, since there are no known Chinese records of paper folding, and since the oldest Japanese records date only to the 18th century, other historians claim that origami is definitely a Japanese invention.
