Personal Narrative: Learning English As A Second Language

I wish we could go back in time and start all over again. Where now we see, things that we regret. But we don’t have that choice except learn from our mistakes. In elementary and middle school, I can remember that I really couldn’t pay very much attention due to the crazy classmates I had. When it came to reading and writing I struggled so much. I don’t know what it was, maybe I was so slow at understanding? Was it bad to speak another language? I always asked questions to myself. I grew up with parents that did not speak, or understood English. They only knew Spanish. It was hard for me because I was the oldest out of my siblings. They didn’t know. However, my parents couldn’t really help me with my reading and writing. They always tried their best to redirect, when I translated the subject. They gave me back ideas in which I wrote down. My mom knew a bit of English. She always helped me out because she understood more than my dad. My dad knew too, but he was not always there to help because he worked in the evenings. I can remember during my elementary year at Fairfield, teachers gave out bags of books when there was back to school night. However, from those books, when I was little, my mom read them to me. I went to South Side high throughout my four years. High school was way different then middle school and it was a little serious too. I had three English teachers helping me with my writing. I think the others were a waste. When I took my first English class I was in a group called ELL which was English language learners. My counselor thought that this English class would help me because English was my second language. Throughout the year being in the group they would call us down into the cafeteria and we would read passages. Some were interesting to read; others were okay. After reading them, we would have to answer questions about the passage. At the end there was topic given and we would have to write about that
