Withitness In The Classroom Reflection

Improved Essays
“The purpose of this assignment is to take some time and put in writing my thoughts and feelings about my personal growth and learning experiences encountered during this course (EDF 219) and clinical (CED 200).” I will be looking at what I enjoyed, learned, disliked, and can take with me in my future as a teacher. I will be reflecting on the Development and Learning Case Studies, clinical experiences at Model, and lectures in EDF 219. Through Development and Learning Case Studies Analyses Project (DLCSAP), I learned how a teacher can have “withitness”. Before completing the DLCSAP, I did not have any knowledge on what “withitness” was in terms of teaching. I plan to take this newly required knowledge and become a teacher that portrays “withitness”. I want to be able to notice an issue and solve it before it gets out hand in the classroom. I learned how different ethnic groups will not sign up …show more content…
I plan to use my new and acquired skills when I am teaching to imply it with the different age groups I may be working with. If I am working with students in Elementary, I learned that they are in industry vs. inferiority stage and needs to be encouraged to make and do things. Through the lectures, I know I need to implement praise in my classroom when students makes accomplishments. I believe my new acquired skill will benefit my students because I now know how to keep their crisis level down. The more times I encourage and praise my students, the more tallies will lean towards industry instead of inferiority. This semester I was able to use this in my clinical experience. When I worked with the students with disabilities, after every accomplishment I praised them and it seem to motivate them to keep trying. A part of the lectures that I would like to see changed is the addition of more classroom management skills, and how some of the theories and punishments may change for students with

Introduction Throughout the Spring 2016 semester, students were expected to volunteer at the Oasis Católico Santa Rafaela tutoring program, which located in a primarily Hispanic community with the goal of serving its local residents by tutoring children to put them on the same educational footing as native English speakers. During this volunteer work, I was exposed to challenges that I was wholly unaware of in a community that is far more underserved than I realized. I will discuss what I observed educationally from the students that I worked with and how those observations carried over from topics discussed in the course of the Education 2013 curriculum. Furthermore, I discuss some of the unique challenges faced by the “first-generation”…

Coming into English 101, I really did not know what to expect. This was my first college writing class so I had no idea what it was going to be like. In high school I would have considered myself to be a decent writer, not the best or not the worst. I would never impress anyone with my writing skills but I could still come across as educated on my topic.…

In my very first rotation in Brooklyn, NY, the Attending facilitating rounds began his teaching by quoting Plato: The greatest mistake in the treatment of diseases is that there are physicians for the body and physicians for the soul, although the two cannot be separated. Though it was my very first day on the floors during my Internal Medicine rotation, this quote has resonated with me and showed me the importance of connecting with patients. Throughout my clinical rotations, I have been privileged to meet professors and Attendings that spared no effort to impart their knowledge and experiences to give me a better insight into the field of medicine. They tirelessly spent countless hours teaching medicine from the molecular level and applied the physiological concepts we learned from our Basic science years to the walking, breathing patients that I had began to come across on a daily basis. The passage of knowledge from Attending to Resident/ Student is something very sacred to me.…

Since most classrooms are multigenerational it is necessary to include learning techniques that would involve different focal points, and depend on the student to choose their best learning style. The Generational Xers who are in the classroom may not benefit from the same learning style as the Millennials. The Generational Xers may benefit from a more empirical learning style such as described in Carper’s theory as reading, listening to lectures, reviewing the content and applying the content (Kearney, 2015). Learning strategies that would best fit this group may be things such as lecture, quizzes, memorization techniques, and case scenarios. There is many books, and memorization tools that are available to help the students learn the cardiac fundamentals.…

Since the implementation of Individuals with Disabilites Education Act of 2004, which was created to devolp a better access of public education for students with disabilites, school districts across the nation and other geographical areas have tried to represent it in the classroom. Research has been done to understand the factors in which the transition to inclusion of students with disabilites, which is part of IDEA, have plagued the progress. It appears there may be three common factors; school leaders attitudes, training, and teachers accepting not only the resposiabiliy all the students and their disabilites, and working together and planning with another professional. IDEA effects the United States and its territories, however, other…

I had the pleasure of being in Dr. Maryann Barra, NULD 6405: Critical Care clinical course, for the fall 2015 semester. During my time in Dr. Barra’s clinical course, I learned that she is a teacher that devotes a great amount of personal time and effort in developing daily teaching and clinical activities for student development. She believes in active teaching, demonstrated in the teaching strategies she uses to help her students achieve their goal of becoming a registered nurse. An innovative approach to teaching that Dr. Barra, implemented during our clinical was her constant hard work and networking within the hospital to get students actively involved in their learning process on as well as off the floor.…

There I was, a young boy, waiting with my family in the hospital and the Surgical Assistant was taking care of my younger brother’s infected pre-auricular sinus. Medicine fascinated me even when I was a child. I remember being about eight years old when my pediatrician asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. Without hesitation, I told him I wanted to be a doctor. I view medicine as discovery, the chance to learn the science surrounding the human body and develop the skills that will allow me to heal others. As I entered college, I pursued experiences that exposed me to the world of medicine, becoming more involved within my community and university.…

Reflection About Classroom Teaching Experience Being an educator is a challenge and a new learning experience each time. As an educator, I am entrusted with the responsibility of shaping the way students think and feel in the classroom. I have always wanted to be an educator and share my experiences with the new generation of nurses. When I was assigned to work with professor Lynette Rayman to do my classroom teaching experience, I was thrilled because the topic I chose was chronic kidney disease which also happens to be my area of expertise. I had to incorporate my previous learning experiences to make my presentation lively.…

I had to be flexible to cater my lesson plan to my student, so he could build upon what he learned and advance through more challenging activities.…

Reflection on Book Title “The Leader, The Teacher & You” I share the same sentiment with the author that “Walk the ground!” is essential for a leader to earn respect from the ground. Walking the ground also requires social competency skills such as being able to “communicate to influence” and having “interpersonal effectiveness”. In future, I will apply this principle of “Walk the ground!” by constantly engaging my superiors, peers and subordinates for their guidance and opinions through cohesion and feedback sessions on how various tasks can be done more effectively and efficiently. Through these sessions, I will seek to understand their concerns and challenges in their area of work.…
