My Teacher Strength Project

Decent Essays
I started my teacher strength project by picking a teacher that has high skill and low will. This teacher has been teaching for 20 years and has been told he was going to have to travel between two schools. This has really hurt this teacher’s motivation to be an effective teacher. By know this teacher, it is clear that he is purpose driven because of this I am asking that he help the program to get back to where it was a few years ago. The way that I address the teacher I felt showed the importance of him being the one that was having to travel. This teacher is highly effective normally. I believe that the beginning of this issue was lack of communication from the start. The teacher never had any communication of why he was having to travel

I would like to recognize Jed Smith as an exceptional individual as well as collegiate strength and conditioning coach. His knowledge, personality, and altruistic character led the University of Northern Iowa to new heights. I was a student-athlete at the University of Northern Iowa majoring in Exercise Science when Jed became the head strength and conditioning coach. Jed started a tradition and foundation at UNI on an academic level as well as athletic. Academically, he worked closely with the exercise science department to put more of an emphasis on strength and conditioning as a profession, which further led to both of my degrees in Exercise Science (i.e., M.A. and B.A.).…

Since Tim Apodaca’s arrival at Highland Park as a teacher (he's also a graduate of HP) I've seen him strive every day to improve his pedagogy, curriculum, and techniques- almost to a fault. His natural, easy rapport with students combined with his unrivaled knowledge of his subject area (He was the lead mechanic for this school district for ten years, maintain 501’s fleet of vehicles!)-make him a standout in the classroom as an educator. What makes him distinguished, however, is his constant quest to improve himself as a professional. Not a day goes by that Tim doesn't stop by my room (To be fair, he is next door to me!)…

After reading a few chapters of Strengths Quest, I was instructed to participate in the Strengths Finder assessment (Anderson, Clifton, & Schreiner, 2006). This 30 minute assessment was an interesting tool that pointed out my greatest strengths. It also provided a detailed description of what having those strengths mean and examples of how they are prominent in a person 's life. After taking the StrengthsFinder survey, I discovered that my five dominant strengths are empathy, harmony, consistency, relator, and restorative.…

My Cross Country/Track coach is one of the best men I know. He not only betters his runners by teaching us, but he also runs with us. Pushing us to greatness with words of encouragement, he implores us to leave all energy on the course/track and teaches us to be exceptional people outside of running. He expresses to us that no matter what we do, he will always be proud of each member of the team; therefore, our actions can’t change his love for us. That’s why it was devastating when he told us before the past track season, that he would not be able to coach for the remainder of the running season from February until we initiated winter conditioning November.…

Carolyn Powers, an administrator referenced in Failure is Not an Option by Blankstein, said, “Each time I have taken a new administrative position, no matter how effective and successful I was at my last position, I started at the bottom on the trust scale and had to work my way up” (pg. 66). Looking at the fictional district and how to build relational trust in a building I would start by creating a five step plan to ensure that teachers see I am “starting from the bottom” and willing “work my way up” in regards to gaining their trust and, in turn, their loyalty. For starters, I would listen first. In this particular district there are is an abundance of teachers who are veterans and have been in the district for years. Tapping this resource…
