Succeeding in College Experience College is a time of significant change for the majority of students, a stepping stone to the next stage of life. It is a time when most students are becoming more independent, embracing further responsibility, maturing, exploring your own dreams, and developing as individuals. Yet, college is also a time of challenges, new experiences, changed expectations, and successes in everything from classes to life itself. In considering what worked well this semester, time management and organization were by far the most important skills. College classes are time consuming and demanding. I learned quickly that I must be organized to keep track of assignment due dates to stay on the right path. Maintaining a planner for assignments helped this organization. Additionally, time management is key for me. As a college athlete, baseball practices, games, and weightlifting involve a significant time commitment. Thus, it is necessary to have established study times every day …show more content…
My first support system is my family, especially my parents. My family is my rock that keeps me grounded and my sounding board when I need assistance. Additionally, my mother helps review my papers to make suggestions. It is critical to maintain that good relationship with your parents and family as it has been shown in several studies that a supportive relationship between a student and parents helps ease the adjustment to college life (Crede and Niehorster 139). A further support system for me is the Marshalltown Community College Student Success Center, which provides academic support, such as tutoring and help with writing papers. I found out very quickly that college support systems are essential for success in classes. Writing assistance is especially useful for me since I struggle with writing. These resources impact my college career by facilitating and easing issues with challenging
