I want more out of life, the finer things that only money can buy. Your study habits are an indirect impact on your future the difference between studying and not studying could be that summer internship, you miss out due to the fact you got a C- instead of your peer who got an A. During the summer, I have learned various study skills in my College study skills class, such as active reading skills, test taking strategies, different types of an academic mindset, and using resources around campus. I was putting all of these in practice …show more content…
One strategy that I will use throughout my college career is to demote my assignments. I chose this because during the summer I gave more attention to my non-credit classes than my General Education course. This reflected during my first week I did not open my Criminology course book until after the first exam. In my opinion Newport’s most important step to me was Quizzes and Exams was more effective for me. I’ve never performed well on test, I always go in feeling fully prepared and when the exam reaches my desk I get a mental block and forget everything. Step 3 says to Marshall my resources and to define my challenges that are present pre; post-test. The least effective section was Essays and Papers for me, I feel as though Papers are a personal matter everyone handles them differently. He suggested things catering to his style of learning, such as how he does his research based off of his notes. I like to do my research blinded I go into it and ignore my notes, once I gather some sources I compare and contrast the two sources to find the major points. I would recommend this book to future STP students because Newport gives valuable information about how to handle the transition to college and the …show more content…
My schedule this summer allowed me to have at a minimum, one hour break in between every class. In between that break I would get all my homework done for the previous class or get as much work done as I could. By doing so it allowed me to free up time after study hall and go to the gym work out; lift weights. I implanted the gym into my weekly planner, it was under everyday expect Sunday for 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. where I would do various exercises. My goal kept me motivated because if I did not did not do my work I

The experience that I went through and that I would like to share was when I played golf in the beginning of the year. I was fine managing my schedule during the first week or two of school, but then I started getting more and more homework as the weeks went on. I had a hard time keeping up with my school work and playing golf. I practiced every day after school and I didn’t really have any time after school to do my homework. Playing golf took up basically all of my time because I played it 5-7 days a week between practicing with the school team or practicing with my golf instructor/coach.…

Some of the lessons that I thought were helpful and some that were not were making a plan, have time for you, get to know your teachers, and study. First of all, making a plan is one thing that I found very helpful when reading that part of chapter. In both of the readings it was saying make a plan, and get your work done.…

My ambition helps myself and my family, but to accomplish my goals, I need determination to push through any difficulties. I’m also a person who wants to live a healthy lifestyle, so I go to the gym and try healthy eating. It started when I stopped taking ballet classes, and the only sport I participated in was cross country. Because cross country was only in the fall, I didn’t have any motivation to go running after the season ended. Every time I tried to push myself to go, I got lazy and said I would go another time, but that really didn’t happen.…

Not everyone who attends college are successful at completing the courses needed to graduate. For many reasons, college students are forced to drop out willingly, are withdrawn by administration, or simply lose interest in furthering their education. However, the college students who complete college successfully and make it to graduation share some habits that make the odds of being successful work in their favor. Many college students succeed because they make it a priority to attend and involve themselves in class sessions regularly, take control of their education, and nurture relationships with the instructors on their school campus. One of the most important causes of being a successful college student is actually attending class sessions regularly.…

Waschull (2005) I have concluded that they both have provided a well written hypothesis based on their experiments. Although Waschull (2005) research was based more on self-discipline and motivation and Roper (2007) focused on methodology. In this essay, I will explain what I have learned about factors related to success in online education based off both articles, how can I incorporate these factors to this course and I will provide a full plan/timetable that can be applied using factors from both articles and the provided material from this course. Over the course of the semester, I have learned all of the skills necessary to excel in school and college. Some of the most important things I have learned were how to manage time and how to be an active reader. Before learning how to manage my time, I would easily get distracted and procrastinate but now I have learned how to get everything done in a timely manner. Also, before the course I would struggle to comprehend what my textbook said but thanks to the course, I now spend the time to reevaluate what I am reading to fully understand the material. Other helpful lessons I have learned from this class were how to take good, helpful notes and what kind of learner I am.…

“I never look back, darling! It distracts from the now.” “The Incredibles,” became a special movie for me after seeing it for the first time many years ago. However, what brings me back to this movie as a young adult is this line from Edna Mode that shows a philosophy I try to hold myself by today. With the onslaught of living with a depressive disorder that affects only 11% of adolescents in the US, and the challenges of finding a place to live while helping my single mom with my brother, I find that looking forward is the only thing I can do.…

In my log my time choice to workout later in the day helped me maintain consistency and actually helped me feel better and having done it a little in the previous week unintentionally helped me have a desire to increase my workout. I also showed huge improvement in choosing to workout by including a side of sit-ups, arm workouts, or squats.
