Decent Essays
I took the ASVAB on September 26, 2017. The test results came out like I expected they would. My strongest areas are general science, which is where the ASVAB test the ability of science knowledge with a 51. The other strongest area I have is paragraph comprehension 50. Paragraph comprehension is the ability to read a paragraph and obtain information from the paragraph. My weakest area is auto and shop information with a 30. Auto and shop information is about the maintenance and repair of wood and metal shop practices. The areas I was strongest in which was general science, and paragraph comprehension, which wasn't surprising to me considering reading comprehension is easy for me, along with general science which is my subject.

The human body is arguably the most researched organism on Earth. The intricate relationship between molecular, anatomical and physiological characteristics of it astounds me, yet what interests me most is not how powerful the human body is as a whole, but how ultimately our physiology can fail us. Studying biology at an undergraduate level will allow me to grasp a deeper understanding as to why this happens, as well as develop my existing knowledge of the mechanisms involved in keeping humans alive. A-level biology has provided me with a broad spectrum of knowledge; topics outlining the function of the body, such as the circulatory system and the immune system, have further stimulated my desire to pursue degree level study.…

You never know how much you want something until it's almost taken away from you. During my CA-1 year I was involved in an incident where there was a mishandling of narcotics. My residency was on the line, and even after I was cleared of all wrongdoing, I still felt like I had something to prove. I had to show this program and myself that I belonged. Unfortunately, I've been in this situation before, as the underdog, time and time again.…

The field of science fascinated me even throughout high school. In my Sophomore biology class we worked on a project involving microorganisms from a local pond and from that point forth I knew that this was my dream job. I asked my Biology teacher, Mr Goudy, if he knew how the job market looked for a microbiologist and when he said that it was a growing field, it only made my passion for the study intensify. He also informed me of the growing need due to bacteria developing resistances to the medicines that we currently use at a faster than ever rate. I now have come to Iowa State because I know of the great biology program that the school offers and I wish to eventually graduate from the program with a degree that could lead me to a variety…

My perspectives and life completely changed when I was accepted into Bioscience High School. Being admitted was a huge achievement because the application and interview process was rigorous. One of the requirements for the application was to create a binder portfolio that would represent my worth ethic and what I could offer to the school. Now, I have experienced what it is like to be part of the Bioscience community. At first, the teaching methods and their curriculum was difficult to adjust to because their constructivist ways of teaching was different from the traditional way of education I had been in all of my life.…

I am interested in pursuing Animal Science because animals have always been a big part of my life; I grew up with my grandfather, who had a farm away from home that he tended to every day. Once a week, when I tagged along, he would wake me at 8am sharp and we would head to the farm in his truck. My primary job was to help look after the animals; I cleaned the chicken coops, fed the pigs, brought the cows hay. This generated my passion for animals; the more I cared for them, the more they seemed to trust me, which was a gratifying feeling.…
