This quarter has been truly unforgettable. There have been both countless hardships and happy moments that I have been able to learn from. This paper will include my strongest and weakest Emotional Intelligent Leadership capacities, the experiences that have molded me in my past and present, and how Emotionally Intelligent Leadership will help my future development as a leader. My strongest capacities were Authenticity, Achievement, and Displaying Empathy. My weakest capacities are Emotional Self-Perception and Emotional Self-Control. “Emotional Self-Perception is about describing, naming, and understanding your emotions.” (Shankman & Allen, 34). This has been something that I have been working at my entire life. I remember the class that Saranda taught started with each one of us telling the class how we were feeling. The great thing about this was that it was describing your mood with weather. This made me think about all the things that I had been going through and I realized that it was going to be okay. Since I have been reflecting on this capacity for weeks, I have realized that the first step that I must take is to take more time to love myself. Just this last week I decided to take time to pamper myself and go shopping alone and it felt so good to do something for me and only me. Every day I am learning new things about myself and I believe that these capacities have helped me put a lot of things into perspective. Understanding that I have Authenticity, Achievement, and Displaying Empathy as my strengths has made me more aware of how often that I use them. I believe that knowing that these capacities have helped me be a better leader lets me know that I should use these to my advantage. These capacities fit well with my aspirations of wanting to be a youth advocate. To be a youth advocate you must be transparent and trustworthy because you will be around youth who need to know the truth, but also because their parents are trusting you to take care of their children. You must also want to set high standards for these youth because most of them are coming from broken households and tough lives and need that person to push them to their highest potential. Finally, it is critical to display empathy to these young kids. Putting yourself in their shoes and trying to understand what they go through will help you get a glimpse of their lives. These all are valuable tools to use in my future calling because they will make all of these young children more successful.
