In this essay, I will be discussing my strengths and weaknesses, which affects my ability to purse my career as a nurse. I will also include opportunities and threats, which link to my strengths and weaknesses. I also will create a SWOT analysis, which contains bullet points of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
A SWOT analysis is a plan used to help identify an individual’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. These factors help establish whether an individual is able to achieve their goals. In addition, Albert Humphrey first created SWOT analyses in the 1960s (Morrison, 2014). A SWOT analysis are beneficial as it allows an individual to identify what they need to improve and how they can improve on these factors.

I have demonstrated good communication skills whilst implementing work experience at a day care centre, for children aged zero to five years old. I implemented a few group activities with the children; I was able to enhance my communication skills when communicating with the children as I used a clear soft tone when conversing with the children, to ensure that the children understood what I was explaining. This is significant as good communication skills is essential in a health and social care setting for the reason that nurses need to communicate with the patient and also with their careers when conducting treatment so that the patient and their family are aware of what the nurses are implementing. I demonstrate empathy when working with service users who had a learning difficult and elderly service users. I implemented a few group activities with the service user’s also one to one activities. One of the activities consisted of decorating a Christmas tree, whilst decorating the Christmas tree, the service users would tell stories about their past. This would show empathy by sitting with the service user or giving the service user’s eye contact whilst they were talking in order to show the service users that I was listening. However, a threat may have been that the service users were not open or may have not trusted me, as I was new to the service. However, I overcame this by introducing myself to the service users and sitting with the service users and making them feel safe around me therefore, they are more likely to trust me.
