Some I have known my entire life, one was a former teacher turned boss, and another a close friend. Their responses varied but could be categorized in overarching themes.
To become a great leader, you must be conscious of self by identifying your strengths and weaknesses. Self-leadership involves the realization that to change the world around us, we must be willing to change things in ourselves – in the way we think, the way we communicate, the way we believe the world should be. It requires a lot of focus and does not happen overnight. The person who knows him or herself well is better equipped not only to lead but to lead well. (J. G. Clawson, 2012, p. 9) Writing this personal growth feedback survey has allowed me to reflect on my strengths and weaknesses that I was aware of and also become aware of how others view my leadership skills. As a result of the feedback that I received, I have developed a plan to help me personally grow in my leadership role.
My first step is to remember that I am not the only person that is afraid. Even if confidence isn’t something that I was born with, it is something that I can learn over time. In other words, get outside of my comfort zone, win or lose my confidence will begin to grow with experience. One of my strengths was that I am a very determined person, however, it was also noted that I tend to have short-term goals. I think it’s important that I begin to take a long view of my career and make a list of my priorities. While I find it easier to get low-impact things done first for the instant gratification, I need to realize what it is that I’m avoiding and why? Commitment over time is not easy, so I hope to use my strength as a visionary and implement it in long-term
