What I have found in various assignments and essays in the class is that I have a main weakness and strength. My main strength in writing is that I present active voice throughout my essays and assignments; my main weakness in writing is that I repetitively state the same words throughout my essays and assignments. The skills I learned in WRC 1013 improved my weakness and will prepare me in doing research papers in natural science. One of my main strengths in writing is the presentation of active voice throughout all of my assignments and formal essays. Active voice in terms of writing is “the subject is acting …show more content…
For example, I stated an idea regarding the author’s perspective about Texas in the essay, “Revised Essay: What Are the Facts and Lies About Present Day Texas?”: “The third major idea Ivins states regarding Texas is the economic diversity within the state of Texas” (2). This quote shows an improvement within my writing because I usually stated the full name of the author rather than only the last name. For instance, I stated the same statement from the original essay of “What Are The Facts and Lies About Present Day Texas?”, but with different words: “The third major idea Molly Ivins presents in her essay is the economic diversity within the state of Texas” (3). The quote shows my writing previously used the full name of the author which could be annoying to the audience if repeated more than once. From the original essay and the revised essay of “What Are The Facts and Lies About Present Day Texas?” indicates an substantial rate of improvement in getting rid of excessive use of repeating words in assignments and formal

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…
