Positivity and a plan will virtually always help you to succeed. A goal is a desired outcome that we commit ourselves to achieve. The first step of the goal process is as crucial as the end result. Goals are broken down into; Long term (overall goal), Medium term (goal for the year) and Short term (daily goals). Short term goals keep you determined and help to break down the larger challenges. Breaking down goals into everyday to-do lists (short term goals) allows learning and my transition back into schooling uncomplicated and prevents overwhelming stress and pressure. I believe, the goals I set for myself are realistic and tie well with my personal life and everyday activities. I manage my time by, writing a To-do list before I go to bed stating tasks that need to be completed the following day. This allows me to wake up in the morning without feeling overwhelmed and under pressure to finish everything. Once my list is completed, I have attained my short term goal for that day, leaving me with a sense of accomplishment. Next, I have divided my medium term goals into Semester blocks. This course has provided me with the tools to observe myself critically and create a Personal development plan (PDP) to which I will utilise at the beginning of new study units. By doing this I can list the skills I would like to obtain and the overall goal for that semester that I’d like to achieve. Using a PDP makes it easier for me to monitor my academic targets. At the age of 22 I have taken on the full time responsibility of being the mother to my 8 year old step daughter whom, is the most important person in my life. Caring for my family and fulfilling my personal responsibilities may challenge my university goals at times, but both, my partner and daughter are supportive and will do anything to help me succeed. For me to attend University, I had to undertake a different approach which was by online study. As I am a visual learner, I grasp the most out of my study by observing material, analysing and then writing detailed notes. I feel confident examining visual aids (graphs, maps, graphic organisers). I believe my learning style contributes to studying online which entails being proactive and an independent learner. Without a classroom, set times for tasks or a teacher I need self-motivation. Therefore, maintaining motivation is my biggest apprehension, to overcome this challenge I need to uphold a study/personal life balance. I will manage this by having a designated day each week specifically for relaxation and me time. Online discussion boards with my peers and tutors provide academic support and help to keep each other
