Since I started writing to share the joy, some ten years ago, I have consulted a lot of books, brainstormed, discussed and interviewed a lot of people, and attended contradictive training courses about writing. I continue to be confronted with and receive many suggestions, opinions, recommendations, and irrelevant corrections by mediocre (professional) proofreaders. Added to that, the endless number of pieces of advice about: “WHAT to do,” instead of a single step-by-step “HOW to do it." Also, there have been endless disagreements and discussions about empty arguments and opinions. The only exception was Brian, my first “English language screener and cleaner,”…

Scholarly Writing and Plagiarism Grammarly and Turnitin are two essential tools to utilize in writing. This is my first experience using Grammarly and Turnitin and it was remarkable at how quickly Grammarly displayed corrections and suggestions for my work submitted. For Turnitin, my paper had no similarities, however I see there is a window that matches the originality of the paper, and shows the area and percentage amount that is matched. I felt confident with my work after utilizing these two necessary tools. Online Resource Another online resource that supports scholarly writing is Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL).…

The barrier language that I have between Hmong and English is what makes my writing difficult to understand from the start of the school year, not only that, but also just me trying to throughly write an explanation of what I have thought of in mind. Sometimes it doesn’t come out on the paper as I have, have in my thoughts. Which in return create flaws in my level one, two, or three writing paper that affect my writing skills. When typing an essay, I have become accustomed to revising it after it is completed in order to improve its quality. Unless there are any noticeable spelling or typing errors, I do not revise my work until it is completed. Once it is done, I read through it a few times as I tend to make plenty of simple errors. One of those readings include me reading my essay out loud to myself in order to check if there are any awkward sentences that I would not normally say out loud or in a conversation. Often, I may go onto a paper rater website to give me some ideas of what I need to fix; whether it be vocabulary, or transitional statements.…
