I believe it is important for all teachers to be a developer for they constantly look for growth in their students vs. proficiency. Whether or not the school you are working in bases things off of a student’s proficiency or their growth, I believe all teachers should still look towards growth within their students. This is a huge strength that has leaded me to becoming a teacher. Seeing a students face when they understand something they may not have before hand is a feeling that you cannot compare to. Students need constant encouragement in a classroom. There will be times where students will encounter tougher times in the classroom and I believe that the teachers responsibility is to keep them motivated and encouraged; having the strength of a developer instilled in you helps this happen. The five greatest strengths shown to me by the Strengthsfinder Survey were Consistency, Belief, Responsibility, Developer, and Relator. I chose a life of Civil Service, in the Military and now as a Police Officer. Having Consistency and Responsibility I believe fit right into this life choice and in my opinion if you don't have Belief in what you're doing you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place. I utilize Consistency on a daily basis as a Police Officer. I wholeheartedly believe each individual has the right to be treated fairly and on equal ground to anyone else regardless of social, economic or criminal justice standings.…

Upon completing the StrengthsFinder survey, it is determined my 5 greatest strengths are the learner, achiever, competition, strategic, and relator, all of which I expected (Clifton, Anderson, & Schreiner, 2006). While reading the text I examined the various themes of different strengths, relating closely to the 5 assigned by the survey, I am impressed by how well the explanations were written in the book, Strengths Quest Second Edition. The text in correlation with the materials provided from the StrengthsFinder survey brought forth meaning and depth into finding out exactly the type of person I am. Learning is listed as my top strength in the survey (Clifton, Anderson, & Schreiner, 2006). I believe I have used that trait extensively throughout…

One day as I leisurely read, I stumbled upon the following quote, “Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” On a website comprised of many short yet moving quotes, this one quote in particular was the most tangible to me in the entire collection. For weeks, I pondered on the very essence of strength and questioned what hardships have I endured and how was I strengthened by it.…

I thought the Survey of Character Strengths was an interesting survey to take. My first and second strengths were not particularly surprising to me, however my third was not what I necessarily expected it to be, but I am certainly not unhappy with it. All three strengths are values I have always admired because I have grown up watching my parents and older siblings showcase all three. I have consciously tried to emulate their example regarding these strengths and it was intriguing and encouraging to see all three show up in the survey. I was glad to see which strength showed up as my top, as kindness and generosity are especially important to me.…

Starting with my strengths, I have always been athletic as I grew up playing almost every sport and acquired enough skills to do well in most other activities that may be new to me. I have assumed leadership roles on most of my sports team at one time or another, and in a number of projects at school. I do not see this as a huge strength at this time because my experience in leading as a teacher is fairly limited.
