Impulse buying refers to the impulse behavior of making continuous and unintended or unplanned purchases and the “irrational process in which the urge to gratify an impulse triumphs over the rational parts of the mind” (Aruni & Santhi, 2015, pg. 22, para. 2). Tolerance may be present with impulse buying as an individual increases the quantity or frequency of their purchases in order to satisfy the effect or thrill of making said purchases. A fantastic example of impulse buying in My Strange Addiction is Rebecca, who is addicted to buying shoes. With her addiction she has spent more than $45,000 dollars and currently owns over 200 pairs of shoes. As well, Rebecca has personified her shoes and truly believes that her shoes have feelings; and she feels like she hurts their feelings when she does not wear them. Rebecca admits to stalking sale ads and making many purchases without telling her fiancé because she feels guilty about her shopping at times.
