Punishment And It's Negative Effects On Children

My story starts at 6:31am on March 7th, 1998. When a man and his wife, after 6 years of trying, finally had a child. My name was going to be “Bell” but, once my parents saw me they didn’t think I looked like a “Bell.” So they decided to name me “Keagan,” which means “small and fiery.” Which turned out to be quite fitting. My parents did not have any other children. I am their only little girl.
Because of that reason, they are very protective. Plus, both of their jobs involve kids, and protecting kids. Both of them have seen extremely bad things happen to children. So when they had me, they tried very hard to keep me safe. My parents have never hit me as a form of punishment. When I was punished, they would take away something that I loved, like a toy, the TV, or spending time with friends. I was sent to my room or sat in a corner, instead of being spanked.

However, at that point they didn’t think to look at the school system that a child of theirs would be placed into. Then, when they were thinking about having children, they had jobs that involved knowing the school systems in the Raleigh and Fayette County areas well. They both agreed that I should go to school in Beckley for multiple reasons.
First, they both worked primarily in Beckley. Second, both sets of my grandparents lived in Beckley, in case something ever happened they would have people close to take care of me. Third, they believed the Beckley school systems were academically better. Instead of going home after school, I would go to my grandmother 's house to wait for one of my activities to start. Still to this day, I rarely get home before eight o’clock pm on

Spanking has been an effective way for parents to reprimand their children if they misbehave or act inappropriately. Until recently, spanking has been a culturally acceptable form of punishment for children between the ages of one to five. In fact, 65% of 3-year-old children had been spanked within the last month (Lee, Altschul, and Gershoff 2017). However, many disagree with the idea of spanking their children, due to the fact that it may cause more aggressive behavior. Instead of spanking, people have turned to a warmth parenting style which includes “affection, comfort, concern, nurturance, support, and good old fashioned love (Lee, Altschul, and Gershoff 2018) .”…
