It was 8 o’clock on a Monday morning when I walked outside to check the clothes on the line. Everything seemed pretty normal, the clothes were still there, birds were chirping that’s one of my classical family stories that’s told at almost every holiday get together without fail. Most people have at least ones crazy story that they like to tell, and my family is no exception. The story that everyone on my father’s side of the family can recite word for word is the one where my grandmother lost the animals. The story sounds kind of crazy to begin with and the first time you hear it you aren’t sure if it is actually one hundred percent true. But, I can assure you that this in fact did happen, and yes, my grandmother lost all 6 horses and a bull from the yard on the same day.
First I’ll give you a little back ground on my father’s side of the family. I’m not going to say they are rednecks but if there was a name for people who were half redneck and half “normal” that would describe them perfectly.

There was a few stories that my grandmother would tell me about a horse getting its leg caught in the barbwire or a pig wondering out of its cage but nothing to major that they couldn’t deal with. So the day that all of the horses and the bull got out came as a pretty big surprise. My grandmother says it was just a normal day. She was cleaning the house, taking care of the kids, and preparing supper for when my grandfather got home. In their house, you could see perfectly into where the horses were kept through their kitchen window. So, when she was looking out the window just to check up on things and make sure everything was okay with all the animals, she noticed something that was definitely going to be a huge problem. The horses had knocked down a small part on the wooden fence just big enough for all six horses to get out. My grandmother went outside to see where they were but the horse were nowhere to be

Barbara J. King introduces her argument with a very serious and riveting story about a mother dolphin in distress over the corpse of her baby and uses this anecdote to grab the audience’s attention, appeal to their pathos, and intrigue the audience to continue reading. Her argument is an ambiguous case because even though the two topics of animals and mourning over a loved one would each seem to be honorable, a large portion of the audience she is targeting either doesn’t know or have not formed an opinion with the subject that animals can mourn as well as humans, while others simply disagree with her. Therefore, she must have this kind of introduction to try and win the attention of her readers.…

I was at my grandmas when it happened so we decided the pigs should eat some grass and play in the sun for a while. “We should go outside,” Makayla said. We went outside and let the guinea pig’s in the tall green grass and then we sat on the trampoline. There is a small hill at my grandma's house so we walked over to it carrying both of the guinea pigs. When we got there we sat them down on the grass that was covering the hill, then we sat down in the dirt.…

I interviewed my seventy-five year old grandpa Donnie, researched the Voyles lineage book that my grandma Arlene helped compile, and talked with my dad in order to find out more about my family’s history. According to Grandpa Donnie, it all began in 1759 when Jacob Voils, his wife, and his four sons landed in Port Charleston from Wales. Jacob was a poor man and could not afford the family’s way to Charleston. Desperate, he made a deal with the ship’s captain to indenture his oldest son William Voils as a crew hand for four years in exchange for the family’s way. Upon regaining his freedom, William furiously changed the spelling of his last name to Voyles to break all ties from his father Jacob.…

Family Introduction Creating this genogram was a difficult task for me because my parents and their siblings hardly communicate with each other anymore. Ever since the passing of both my paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother, the families have simply fallen apart. Many relatives have distanced themselves from their extended families, and no longer have a desire to interact with their siblings or cousins. Sociopolitical and spiritual issues have caused some members of both families to harbor resentment against one another.…

MANDATORY: Please describe how you have prepared for your intended major, including your readiness to succeed in your upper-division courses once you enroll at the university. Although it took me quite some time to realize, I have been preparing for my major and career all my life. I decided to write about my relationship with my dad in this post because Father’s Day just passed and because I’ve already made a post about the incredible bond I have with my dad. In that post I mentioned that he was away in Korea when I was born and I didn’t get to see him until I was 7 months old. My mother, who was only 22 at the time, had a lot of responsibility taking care of the three of us who were all under 3 years old. When my dad came home he took over the caregiving duties for me completely because he wanted to make sure he bonded with me. There was a solid attachment built between the two of us at that time that has been tested over time but never frayed.…
