As you can see, the unique title I chose for this theory is My Story, My Response. I chose this title because everyone has a story. None of us knows what makes a person respond in the manner they do. Our expectations of how we desire to be treated are all different because of that life story. Every incident we experience in our lives, whether traumatic or joyous, will affect our interaction with others in this world. No one, but God knows the journey

Burgoon states that everyone has a preference to their own personal space and the distance that they prefer to be to someone else in various situations. Personal space is an “invisible” line between one individual to another. This space is not determined by our age or height, but by our individual relationship and connection to another person. The laws within our culture and how we were raised determines our personal space to others and the meaning of that personal space. We all behave within a set of standards and rules. Sooner or later each one of us may find ourselves in a situation where we have to deviate from what we learned, our set of principles and rules. (Griffin, Ledbetter, and Sparks, 2015, p. 82) The study of personal space was first introduced by Edward Hall from Illinois. Hall studied anthropology and became interested in how people use their own space in relationship to others. He used the term proxemics to first describe this personal space. Hall believed Americans have four proxemics and he defines each one as a zone and a type of relational space. Each zone has a described distance that relates to its meaning. “The four interpersonal distances are intimate distance, 0 to …show more content…

Write about a specific experience that changed how you acted, thought, or felt. Use your experience as a springboard for reflection. Your purpose is not merely to tell an interesting story but to show your readers the importance of that experience for you. Pick an event that is not too personal or too subjective. Something that happened to you or that you observed, an encounter with a person who greatly influenced you, a decision that you made, or a challenge or an obstacle that you faced will be easier to recall (and make vivid for your readers) than an interior experience like a religious conversion or falling in love.…

Christopher “Ludacris” Brian Bridges once said, “Get back motherf*cker! You don’t know me like that!” and like Mr. Bridges, we all have our own sense of appropriate space when interacting with the people we encounter in our daily lives. Edward T. Hall, an American anthropologist, studied the phenomena of ‘personal space’ and devised a term for our interactions and reactions within this space, called ‘Proxemics’. Proxemics is defined by The Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “the study of the nature, degree, and effect of the spatial separation individuals naturally maintain (as in various social and interpersonal situations) and of how this separation relates to environmental and cultural factors”.…

The “inner” world, in the multidimensional approach, is a person’s individual and unique human experience, and consists of the biological, psychological and spiritual dimensions (Harms, 2010). These dimensions are separate but interconnected, and are influenced by and influence each other. Next, the “outer” world consists of a person’s relational, social, cultural and structural dimensions, as well as the dimension of time. The dimensions from both the inner and outer world have a reciprocal relationship — they influence and are influenced by each other (Harms,…

Memories of the time that I made an “unexpected” friend were back when I was in a brick and mortar school. My life had taken a quick change; when I became sick with the flu. Numerous people who get the flu will get over with this in several days or maybe within two weeks, but some people can develop complications of the flu. Imagine your life being healthy, doing sports and out in the real world. However, this can change in minutes.…

In a matter of six months my parents got divorced, my mother passed away, my father got remarried, and I moved in with my step mom along with two step brothers. For me, 2015 was the most traumatic year and while having people perceived me as a put together positive person, when in actuality I held back the pain and underlying depressed remorseful grief. However, I was persistent on not allowing myself to be consumed by my misfortunes and trials instead I was dedicated to change with the obstacles. Often, I drew my strength from my friends and family in order to overcome my afflictions. The moment everything began to change was when my father told me he and my mother were getting a divorce.…

When I was born to Jared Houston and Sarah Houston, it was very evident from the early stages of childhood and onward that something was very wrong with me- in a weird, but extraordinary way. The thing was that I was a born magician that possessed magical powers. This had good effects on the world that surrounded me; but unfortunately, in likeness to the amount of good effects, there were bad effects. Sometimes, as a result of the good effects that came with these magical powers, I could heal anything or anyone that had some sort of wound, especially fatal ones, send psychological messages to other people, etc. It was one ordinary day in 4th grade that I discovered just how dangerous my special powers could be- as much as they were useful.…

I was nine months old during the Summer of 1997; little did I know that my life would soon forever change. I was born in October 1996 at a hospital located in Yangzhou, China, and then directly from there I was placed into an orphanage where the workers were limited, but the babies were infinite. In mid-July 1997, a father, with a great knowledge for the world, a mother, with a selfless heart, as well as their daughter, with a laugh who could brighten anyone’s day, would fly across the world in order to welcome their new baby daughter into their family. These strangers would quickly soon become my life-long companions as well as shape me into someone that not only they could be proud of, but also that society would embrace and cherish too.…
