Primary and secondary schooling is a time when a person grows so much and finds out who they really are. At this time, students start to learn what their philosophies are. I want my class to be a place where students learn many things, but do not feel pressured to think a certain way. At this point, I want parts of my class to be a mix of Progressivism and Essentialism. School is only part of where a child learns, so when they are actually there I want students to focus on the knowledge. I want them to take school seriously and understand that it requires hard work and discipline. As a leader, I want to be respected by the students, but I will not run a strict classroom. Students should be guided to learn the appropriate topics, but also feel comfortable to express themselves. As a Physical Education teacher, I would expose them to a variety of different team sports and teach them why and how the sports impact health. Teaching student the health behind the sport will help show them the importance of why they are even doing the activity. Team work is an important task because it teaches students how to work with others, be democratic, and problem-solve. By exposing them to all these aspects of Physical Education, they will learn the life-long importance of taking part in physical activity. I definitely think mine will change before I become a teacher and even after I have been one for years. Right now, my beliefs follow parts of Neo-Scholasticism, Pragmatism, Realism, Existentialism, Progressivism, and Essentialism. One day I want to create a classroom full of respect and knowledge, so that my students can learn and find out what they think is reality and truth. I use my philosophy to guide my daily life and influence how I interact with others. A teacher should set students up for success by teaching them to problem solve with knowledge and find their own way to be independent learners. Like I said, “My class will be like learning to ride a bike. I will help them in the beginning, but then once they understand I will set them up to be able to go on their own
