I was not sure if I should go or stay and finish my degree. I decided to move with them and it worked out well, as I eventually met my future wife. I also met Javi Garcia, who was the College and Career pastor at First Assembly of God, Mission. Javi and I developed a close friendship that still serves us today. He had such a passion for Christ that I did not see in anyone before. He longed to be used by God and for God to transform him. We would spend time together discussing Scripture and spiritual truths. He invited me to times of prayer together. Mentoring would characterize our relationship. My childhood pastor and I had a good relationship, but it was a pastor-member type relationship. But Javi invited me into his life and was very transparent with me. He would share his struggles, which most of the time, were things I was dealing with. Javi’s influence on my ministry still is evident as I aspire to be transparent with those I minister. I yearn to be used by God in order to enlarge His Kingdom. My commitment to prayer was forged as Javi and would meet at the church for times of prayer and seeking
