Personal Essay: My Pursuit Of Educational Success

Nothing has been handed to me. I’ve worked hard to get where I am today. My hometown has a population of about 5,000. I am the first in my family to obtain a college degree. My father didn’t finished high school, and my mother has taken only a few college credits. Seeing the struggles my parents faced raising two children while not having any form of higher education is one of the driving factors of my educational success. Some statistics show children of divorced parents struggle academically. Fortunately, I am an exception to these statistics. My time and energy went into school and sports after my parent divorced I started taking college credits my senior year. My high school graduating class consisted of 83 students. Most students who wanted to pursue higher education attended the community college and less than 10 students, including myself, moved away to attend college. Joining the Pre-PT club helped me look deeper into the field of physical therapy. I was able to research the field and determine this is the right career choice for me through this student organization. I also took advantage of the study abroad program. I wanted to travel to the other side of the world, put myself out there, and gain more global awareness. I decided to study in New Zealand for a semester and immersed myself in their culture. I took classes about the native Māori people and health sciences. It was unforeseen to notice countries all over the world are facing the same issues the US is facing. Being able to share studies and findings with individuals all over the globe excites me about participating in future research. My experience showed me there is so much happening outside the US. It is important for us, as professionals, to recognize this by having a better global awareness so we are capable of contributing to society domestically and
