My Reflection Of My Career Experience In The Classroom

Before this semester, I was really unsure of my career plans. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my major, of even if I wanted to continue pursuing an Education degree. However, this semester, I have enjoyed being in Teaching Reading, where I was able to fulfill a practicum in the local elementary school. In this practicum, I’ve been able to observe the classroom, the students, and the teacher. I have come away with much more knowledge in the field of education. This semester has not only confirmed my love for teaching, but has also helped me to shape myself into the teacher I hope to be. One of the first and most important lessons that I have learned while being in the classroom is the importance of precise, effective instruction. On my first day of teaching the class, I spent too much time preparing my power point and props for the lesson, and I didn’t spend enough time on the actual instruction. I now know the importance of teaching in a way that is short, …show more content…
In the beginning, I was a little intimidated by movement and noise in the classroom. However, I’m learning that it can be productive. One thing that Mrs. Whitehead and I have both enjoyed is allowing students to work in stations- creating small groups for students. I am learning that when students are in small groups, they are able to communicate freely but still remain orderly. Also, Mrs. Whitehead uses a tactic that allows the students to “free read” as a reward. When they finish their Read Well activities, they are allowed to sit or lay anywhere in the room and read a book of their choosing. I love that she uses this as incentive for her students, and I think that I will definitely incorporate this into my classroom one day. I am learning that I love an interactive classroom. I’ve seen some of the students do their most challenging and work in these small groups, with the encouragement of their

I arrived at Easton School District’s Forks Elementary School at around 8:45 a.m. that morning, a few minutes before the children were let in for class, to observe a 4th grade classroom. The instructor for the class, Mrs. Powell met with me in the main office to walk me down to her classroom. The first thing I saw when walking into the classroom was all of the different learning tools around the room, Mrs. Powell's use of both chalkboards for different objectives was just one, along with open reading areas. The classroom was set up into different 4 person groups, in which the students were able to work together and collaborate. When I was getting settled into the classroom around 9:00 a.m., the students began to arrive officially starting…

While observing in Beth Johnston’s First Grade classroom at Eugene Field Elementary School, I have noticed some effective and ineffective classroom management practices that she uses while I have been in the classroom. One effective classroom management technique that I have observed is that Mrs. Johnston puts her student’s desks into groups of three or four. This is an effective technique because she puts her strong students with her not as strong students, which can help with the students who might need a little help staying on track with the lesson that they are supposed to get done. Also, Mrs. Johnston has changed the groups a couple of times since I have been observing in the classroom. This I believe is effective because the students…

One day, I took my one and a half year old nephew to a place called Gymboree, a gym with play equipment to help teach the children how to do various activities. My sister suggested that I should come see him play and climb on the equipment during the lesson. One of the workers came to the front and started the first exercise by singing a song. My nephew clapped, screamed, and danced to show his excitement. As I watched the lesson director sing and encourage the children, I realized how much I enjoyed it and how much I wanted to be in the director's shoes.…

From the time when my tiny feet walked through the doors of elementary, teachers have always encouraged my fellow classmates and me to always do our best in order to succeed. Between the years of Pre-Kindergarten and Senior year, my ambitions and dreams have changed, as did my age. From wanting to be president (five years old), then a doctor (six years old), then a teacher (thirteen years old), and now a registered nurse (eighteen years old), always having a constant goal is what kept me going.…

As the teaching session progressed, the students remained focused and paid attention to the topics on the PowerPoint and the extra explanations I was saying. They continued to actively participate by answering various questions and completing their notes with the missing key words. The general delivery of the teaching went well as shown by an average SET score of 4.2 for question 1 (Table 1). I spoke in a clear and concise manor which enabled the students to understand my descriptions and explanations of concepts clearly, and allowed them to have enough time to make any extra notes they wanted to write. Many students said that it was a “clear presentation and was easy to understand.”…
