My Sorority

An organization that I am apart of that fits with the Practical View of an Organizational Culture is my sorority. Being apart of my organization for almost two years now, I have found that sorority’s operate just like a business and a lot of what makes my organization so successful and long lasting is because of the standards that are set forth. An organization can be described as using the practical view, if it fits what defines a practical organization. A practical organization is defined as an organization that has created their culture and molds the new members of the organization as they come in so they can keep with the same standards that were set forth. We as a sorority have so many rites and rituals that are all only available to those who are official members. It does not matter where in the world you are; if you are a member of my organization you get the same copy of the book. In that book there are lists of all the rites and rituals that you are to follow and how you are to follow them.

If one does not believe in that mission, they would not be apart out my organization. The reason being is because everything we do and all the partnerships we have are centered upon our mission statement and an individual would not be content if their beliefs did not fit those of the organization as a

There are over 85,000 thousand people in my organization and although we have great leadership on the international, regional, and local levels, it is up to those members who are not a part leadership team to go out and do everything that we as a sorority say we value. For example, on an undergraduate level the way that that I do my part is by helping to raise money for out national partners like St. Jude Children’s hospital and the March of Dimes.
The final principle, created by Jim Collins and Porras, also that comes along with being a part of a sorority is the feeling of elitism. Most, if not everyone, in my organization, has a strong since of pride and that is why my sorority is so secretive. It feels good sharing a common bond with a select group of women who you can call you sister and you know you have share some of the same values with.
While, evaluating my organization I did learn three things. The first thing that I learned is that the way we operate is really similar to that of an actual business. I have been told throughout my time with the sorority, that we operate like a business, so that is what I then tell people. It was not until comparing the principles that were created for business and being able to easily apply them to my

Within each fraternity and sorority, there are public affairs and issue management designed individuals with various position titles, but all assigned similar roles and tasks. When a fraternity or sorority gets into trouble nationwide, there are individuals assigned at the local and national level that work to inform chapter members about the issue and work to shape internal and external opinions about the organizations while dealing with the situation. For example, negative stereotypes still exist concerning fraternity and sorority life. In fact, the issue of whether or not entire chapters or just a few select chapter members create havoc has become the interest of many news sources so chapters must be ready to defend themselves and the good they do (New,…

The application process would be followed by a new member education period and a virtual alumna initiate group to ensure full emersion and integration into our sisterhood. Q: What is the education process for alumna initiates? A: The education process follows the collegiate model as closely as possible, providing historical and ritual education modeled after Aspirations, our keepsake book that is currently given to collegiate new members. In addition, these women would go through basic Fraternity life education courses, like learning the Greek alphabet and about different chapter experiences, so they would also have a background regarding the experience our collegiate members receive. Q: Will the standards of initiating an alumna member be similar to those for collegians (e.g., academic GPA, character, etc.)?…

The organization was first a literate society, basically a group to help African American men to stay in college but they met up in secret because it was banned for African American males to gather at any point in time. So these 7 men had to band together to survive, imagine being black men at an ivy league college in 1906. Even now they have national programs to uplift the black community. There is also a specialized section of the executive board called RISK that encompasses all executive members, including the events director who is not on the executive board.…

As W. E. B. Du Bois explained People cannot just say or do whatever they want because of how other people will respond. Sigma Alpha Epsilon was removed from the University of Oklahoma because the school did not like the message they were sending or the image they were portraying. It would be nice if everyone could just do what they wanted as previous philosophers stated but not everyone has the same freedom as others. On the contrary, Emerson believed that people should always say and do what they feel no matter what other people have to say. Members of SAE are constantly being racist because of the history behind the fraternity.…

Sofa to Represent Our Sorority Throughout the multiple years that the Eta Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma at Lynchburg College has been established; we have been in dire need of a new sofa. We initially received a donated sofa from our Alpha chapter at Longwood in 2007. However, as the years have gone by the sofa has aged unpleasantly: the material is slowly detaching itself, the springs are coming out of the bottom, there is no longer a cushion, and we have wooden boards preventing us from collapsing in. With our sofa being in such a terrible condition, I took it upon myself as Treasurer of Sigma and a sister living in the house, to not only search for a new sofa but also purchase one on behalf of the sorority. In addition, this not only…
