In class, we learned that “Culture is sets of learned behaviors and ideas that human beings acquire as members of society” (Lavenda p.230). In the book, My Freshman Year, one of the main parts of it is understanding other cultures. As an anthropologist, you always want to be able to have a better understanding about humans. According to book the author, Rebekah Nathan was having a hard time understanding what was going on with her students and why were not they acting like students she has taught in the past. While deliberating over what specific personal experience I should use for the purpose of this essay, I thought deeper about how ethical decision making plays a huge role in my life. It’s even bigger than I often realize. “I have to go here, dad. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. In my senior year, there will definitely be a lot of challenges and obstacles for me to conquer, but I believe that as long as I do everything step by step, I can beat down the difficulties in this senior year. When I was in junior year, I often heard last year’s seniors told me how hard is it to come up with a senior project topic, and they kept on reminding me to start thinking of my topic and finding my mentors. Luckily, I had research method class last year, so I knew how to do my APA style references and I had many presentations experiences last year.…

As a young person, choosing what to study is one of the hardest decision you have to make. According to a Washington Post article, “What’s the purpose of college: A job or an education?” by Jeffrey J. Selingo, learning and getting more knowledge about the world used to be a purpose of higher education, but nowadays it switched to getting a job after graduation rather than gaining more knowledge. Education is the most important factor in order to be successful, but lots of people are in college because their parents want them to, while others think that college is the next destination they have to go through after high school. To me, college is the place that teaches us how to think, how to analyze things thoroughly and to pursue a good career…
