My Son Sterling Research Paper

DEAR ABBY: It has been the most rewarding time of my life watching my son Sterling grow and prosper. He has done so well with everything life has thrown him in the six years he has been on Earth. It has also been very difficult because this is my first time being a parent and our parenting styles are evolving with the child. I have taken a fair number of parenting classes and they have all been very useful up until this most recent ongoing issue. Sterling has been having a very hard time refining his all around social skills. He is a very independent child and that is how he likes it. The boy does not cooperate with other children on team events. Whether that is a team sport, or a team project, he just does not work well. He will cause problems …show more content…
The better social development the child has the better the child will be at developing good relationships with peers, the better at concentrating on and persisting with difficult challenges, attending and listening to instructions, and being able to solve social problem. That means as a parent it is important you put in the extra effort with your child to catch them up to speed. To do this, you are going to need to get some quality pretend play time in with Sterling. “The National Association for the Education of Young Children, the major preschool accrediting body in the United States, stated in its recent position paper, ‘high-level dramatic play produces documented cognitive, social, and emotional benefits’”. (American Psychology Association, 2013, page 1). It is imperative that you spend as much time playing with Sterling as you can as if you were back in the school yard. Teach him the importance of sharing and working together with peers. This is vital because if he does not develop these skills he will be at risk to future problems. These negative consequences will be loneliness, depression, withdrawals, and the feeling of anxiety. Along with the mental issues that he will face, there will also be personal
