The novel My Sister’s Keeper, was banned in 2009 for a number of reasons. These include; offensive language, homosexuality, sexism, religious viewpoint, violence, sexually explicit content, and content unsuited for a certian age group. It is said to be the 7th most challenged book in the U.S. by the American Library Association. For example, Anna states,” The fact that i’m not sick, but I might as well be. The fact that I was only born as a harvest crop for Kate[..] I want to sue them for the rights to my own body” (Picoult). This raises the question of whether the medical community’s new advancements are coming too quickly for our minds to handle. Yes, the book does have it’s flaws with the explicit content, but it shows that people will try do all they can to help someone they love. Anna can only do so much when it comes to her sister needing her for medical purposes. It also tells how much determination she had to get out of her parents grip of giving up her life for Kate’s. For example, Anna states, “Sometimes to get what you want the most, you have to do what you want the least” (Picoult). Anna had to do something she didn’t want to have to do, in order to save her life. Even though she sued her parents for the right to her own body, she still felt the guilt of leaving her sister behind. This shows that if you set your mind to something you can make a change in your life. Anna did, and even though she did she still wanted to help her
