On October 13th, I shadowed pharmacist, Dr. Diana Tow at a Walmart Super Center in Fort Worth, Texas. My shadowing began early that morning and ended around noon. This was my first time behind the pharmacy viewing a practicing community pharmacist. Many of her tasks for the day included immunizations, reviewing medications orders, counseling patients, and when orders became backed up she aided the pharmacy technician when available. There was an audit that day for immunization from the corporate level to make sure that all procedures and vaccines were being stored correctly. The corporate employee who was also a licensed pharmacist and allowed me to participate in the audit.

My over-all experience could be described in many ways. It started out at the wrong pharmacy location because the information on the site hadn 't been updated and the actual pharmacy I was intended to be at was on the other side of town. I’m still steering towards the research and work at the industry level. The work at the community pharmacy seemed very monotonous and didn 't have much variation. I did like the patient interaction. I recognize the importance and role that the community pharmacy plays because the pharmacist is the last step in the patients’ health care. They are the last medical professional that the patient can talk too about their treatment, concerns and symptoms. Also, the number of new drugs coming in and out make it imperative that a practicing pharmacist remain knowledgeable and within the community pharmacy setting. Policies and the role of the pharmacist are changing rapidly as they’re taking on more responsibilities and being further utilized. I feel once I start working in a pharmacy my perspective may change and I may take a better liking to community pharmacy
