Interview Paper When this project was introduced, I began thinking about whom I was going to interview. My senior year of high school I cadet taught at an elementary school. I was in a general education classroom that year but I was also introduced to students with special needs. There was one boy who had mild autism and I learned a whole lot from him just from working together for a few minutes each day. Since the assignment was to interview a special education teacher I emailed the teacher I cadet taught for and asked if she knew any special education teacher that would want to be interviewed. After several emails were exchanged, I had an interview set up. I chose to set up the interview on the Friday of fall break because it was one of …show more content…
Rachael Owens. I was a little nervous going into this interview because I had never met this person and I was not sure what it was going to be like. Once I got into the classroom I was really excited to begin because I could tell she was in love with her job. It was nice to see how things are similar in a general education classroom versus a special education room. I began with small talk to ease into the conversation and after a few minutes, I realized how easy she was to talk …show more content…
I always love asking people why they chose to be a teacher because it is usually a different answer from each person I ask. She said growing up she always knew teaching was her thing. I thought it was so awesome that she always knew because that’s similar to why I chose teaching as my career path. In elementary school I would sit in class and wonder what it would be like if I had my own classroom and if I would be a good teacher. Mrs. Owens and I related a lot on why we chose to become

Each person has his or her individual path to follow, no two paths are exactly the same; but, every now and then, paths interweave and people construct bonds with each other. In the case of Sonny and his brother, the narrator, in James Baldwin’s short story, “Sonny’s Blues”, their paths were parallel with one another until they grew up. Sonny left the slums of Harlem, aspiring to become a musician, while his brother settled in Harlem and became a teacher. Although the narrator and his brother ended up with completely different lives, the narrator being a family man with a teaching job and Sonny, an ex-convict playing jazz at a club, are ironically more similar than they are portrayed.…

Throughout the glimpse of time that was allotted for this particular practicum experience I learned a lot of exciting things about disabilities, but also made some disconcerting revelations. While spending the day at school I was able to interact with the students, teachers, and overall staff of the high school; gaining insights, perspectives, and forming thoughts on everything I had witnessed. From start to finish, my day back at school has left a lasting impression on me.…
