My Senior Quote In High School

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what my senior quote in the yearbook should be. I’ve debated whether it should be serious or funny, useless or meaningful, whether in any way it should reflect my high school experience. I could be sassy and say something like “That was the most fun I 've ever had without laughing” (Annie Hall movie, 1977). Alternatively, my quote could be “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”(Dr. Seuss, Oh the Places You’ll Go). Should I choose something some else has said, or say my words? I am just confused. We get a good start at this school, with all the work we do during the junior year. We learn to not only talk about ourselves, but do it in a way that displays our innermost feelings, and who we are when we are not pretending. This process prepared me and most of my classmates to the point where we have to turn this into sharing our personal essays and stories. This process was incredibly hard. You go through life being taught not to brag, and then you have to to achieve one of the biggest milestones of your life. The pressure to get the 600-1000 or so words you write exactly right is immense. During the book, I understood the choice the girl made to write about the pot brownie. I feel she was true to herself, she was not trying to hide anything, but I understand the admission officers’ choice not to admit her. In a way, this girl did the morally right thing in disclosing everything, but the wrong thing by disclosing everything, and that is incredibly confusing to me. There 's such a fine line here, and to cross over it could cause an acceptance letter to turn into one of denial to your dream
