The Story of My Search
William Shakespeare once said, “What is in a name? That we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” Everyone is given a name at birth and it is usually their name for the rest of their life. A name is how people are identified. A name is someone’s label; so many opinions come up when you hear a name. I never knew anything about my name rather than it is Alec Hayden Plunkett. It is all I had ever known and I was curious about the meaning of my name, where my family comes from, and any other information I could discover and until Mrs. Beddingfield gave me this assignment on my name. Alec was most trendy for babies in the years of 1995-1998. The state today in which the name Alec is the most popular is Nevada and Utah. The name Plunkett, a hybrid of English and Irish or Norman, has a little bit different meaning in books. It is a habitation name from a metathesized form of Plouquenet. The second meaning I found is a maker or seller of blankets (Hanks and Hodges 424). The name Hayden was originally a surname with the spelling as Haydn, but was changed by adding an e to it to make the pronunciation longer (Dunkling and Gosling116).
