Loss of Jobs Across Nation As of October, 2016 the unemployment rate for the United States has raised to a whopping 4.5%, about 2% higher than it was in 1954. The loss of jobs our nation faces is one of the biggest social issues we have and will most likely have for many years to come. In the book The Other Wes Moore we see this social issue as a main factor of why the other Wes Moore ends up in jail for the rest of his life instead of a successful well-educated entrepreneur. A second reason a school certificate is pointless is that numerous present managers are willing to contract understudies with secondary school-level abilities. Be that as it may, bosses have found that a secondary school confirmation no more compares with secondary school level abilities. Managers even whine of secondary school graduates regularly being unskilled. " More than 40 percent of secondary school seniors need ninth-grade math aptitudes, and 60 percent need ninth-grade perusing abilities" (Rosenbaum 18). My Motivation: What motivates me the most to pursue a college degree is that I will be the first person in my family to receive one. My grandmother is the backbone behind this motivation because she was always making sure that academics came first in my life. There was rarely a day that I would come home and she would not ask me questions about my homework, asking what I learned in school, or even looked over my homework. As I got older, she made sure I was a part of a college prep program called AVID from 6th-12th grade and that definitely made a difference for me. It helped me understand the importance of continuing your education and how beneficial it can be to succeeding in life.…

Chapter three of Dark Ages Ahead by Jane Jacobs takes up the debate about “real” education vs mere “credentialing” where the author strongly argues that education no longer exists in the same form as it did before due to society's decision to put more value into credentials. Foremost, there is a decrease in the quality of the education that post-secondary institutes offer given…
