Although not completely in motion as of the time of writing this essay, there still has been plenty of work to coordinate and finish. From organizing reminders and email lists to communicate with prospective members, working with the sponsor to plan the course of the club, and simply undertaking such a task that is founding a club, I have burdened myself with great responsibility that I should definitely follow through with. This conference will allow me to be a better communicator and leader so that when the chapter is fully operational and running my senior year, I will be a suitable president and ensure the club will help students and teachers alike, becoming a permanent part of my school. I am currently secretary of my school’s chemistry club, and so naturally there is a chance I will hold a vice-president or the president position next year; younger and less experienced newer members of the club will look up to me for guidance and I must assume that responsibility. Additionally, my involvement in my school’s chapter of National Honors Society (NHS) has led to a plan on trying out for a leadership position for the next school year. The Southwest Leadership Conference will aid me in that holding such leadership positions will not be as stressful and that I will be a better fit for those roles. Outside of clubs, even in the normal classroom environment, being a more well-rounded individual and role model will aid in being able to participate and help others in the classroom. Leaders are looked up to, whether they like it or not, so they must be able to show the maturity needed to hold their position with pride and actively work toward helping those around
