Springboard Reflection Essay

The opportunity that I have selected to work on for my final project is my school’s Springboard Capstone Experience and specifically, how to generate increased buy-in from our rising seniors. I believe that, as a school, we need to improve the value that the students put on the Springboard experience before they enter even the program. Springboard is a program that grew out of an idea that came from the Program Review Committee to give seniors a more meaningful yearlong project. It is an interdisciplinary project-based course that models Apple’s Challenge Based Learning model. “Team learning is a discipline of practices designed, over time, to get the people on a team thinking and acting together. The team members do not need to think alike” (Senge, 2012). The outcomes of the individuals of each Springboard course should be unique, but the overall learning process should move together as one living-breathing creature. This would give the Springboard Director plenty of time to analyze the data collected and to reach out to the faculty as a whole to see if any of the ideas proposed by the students match the interests of the faculty. At that point, the faculty member would then have personal buy-in. With both the student and faculty interests peeked there is not telling how valuable of an experience the Springboard program could be for the entire school community.
