Springboard Reflection Essay

The opportunity that I have selected to work on for my final project is my school’s Springboard Capstone Experience and specifically, how to generate increased buy-in from our rising seniors. I believe that, as a school, we need to improve the value that the students put on the Springboard experience before they enter even the program. Springboard is a program that grew out of an idea that came from the Program Review Committee to give seniors a more meaningful yearlong project. It is an interdisciplinary project-based course that models Apple’s Challenge Based Learning model. The idea behind the program is to encourage learning that fully utilizes the technology that our students are already using on a daily basis to solve real-world …show more content…
“Team learning is a discipline of practices designed, over time, to get the people on a team thinking and acting together. The team members do not need to think alike” (Senge, 2012). The outcomes of the individuals of each Springboard course should be unique, but the overall learning process should move together as one living-breathing creature. The students need to be willing to have open and respectful dialogue that will shape their futures within the course, but also begin to shape the future of Springboard for the next group of …show more content…
This would give the Springboard Director plenty of time to analyze the data collected and to reach out to the faculty as a whole to see if any of the ideas proposed by the students match the interests of the faculty. At that point, the faculty member would then have personal buy-in. With both the student and faculty interests peeked there is not telling how valuable of an experience the Springboard program could be for the entire school community. As stated in Schools That Learn, “Changing the way we interact means redesigning not just the formal structures of the organization, but the hard to see patterns of relationships among people and other aspects of the

Actually, I am still in the most challenging academic course I have taken to date, AP United States History (APUSH). APUSH has been difficult for me due to the fact that I had very little knowledge of US history preceding my enrollment in the class. Furthermore, prior to this class I had never really had to study extensively to maintain high marks. APUSH has been different. Having little knowledge of this material, I have had to spend much more time studying.…

Portfolio reviewers: My pre-ECU 2201 experience was my English 1100 course. While taking this class online, I learned how to make an interesting essay. Though this class didn 't require much research, it taught me how to write an interesting essay. Most of the time the professor gave us the decision to write whatever we wanted to write on. There might been some times where he wanted us to write a specific topic, but still had the chance to write whatever we wanted within the topic.…

Reflecting on my midterm progress in English 102, I realize all rhetorical modes need to be employed to have an effective final product. My confidence in my ability to develop and express a clear message to the reader has grown exponentially since English 101. “I have to go here, dad. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. It was a strange feeling knowing that I would no longer be Lakeland High School’s most spirited student, but there was excitement in knowing that I would soon show my pride for Colorado Mesa. Images of my blue and white spirit wear quickly changed to be maroon and gold.…

When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…

Reflecting on your previous writing can bring to light how your writing skills have improved and grown into your current writing. Previously, I had been exposed to a lot of writing and reading in my AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature classes in high school. The writing skills that I had learned in both classes dealt with analysis papers pertaining to a specific prompt or style. I also had been exposed to lots of literature, specifically short novels and poetry that I had to interpret. My high school AP English classes prepped me for the college level writing class at High Point University.…

I truly enjoyed having your English 070 class. I have experienced throughout this course difficulties, challenges, and most importantly the feeling of accomplishment after completing any assignment. During my high school time in Mexico, I really did not have the opportunity to write an assignment like how I did in this class, and what I found is that even when I got frustrated at some point, I really enjoyed writing them. I really was nervous at the beginning of the semester and I assumed that the work was going to be beyond hard.…

Sitting at my desk in english class, 15 minutes before the end of the period, feeling a small sense of deep inner satisfaction from my work in the previous double period of Draw/Paint level 4, I held a piece of paper in my hands pertaining the information and guidelines of a common app essay. Somewhat confused, I stared blankly at the paper. The bolded words of the length requirement and the due date stuck out against the pure white like a needle through the skin of my finger. I felt a deep sense of dread as I was trying to brainstorm an immediate idea as to what I could write about. I thought of the lessons I learned from my father on right and wrong.…

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

When most people think of a history class they imagine sitting in a dark lecture hall taking notes off a PowerPoint presentation, memorizing a few dates and people, repeating it on the test. Truly studying history, I learned, is more than memorization of a previously told story and accepting it as true. In this class I have learned history is about actively engaging the material, picking apart the details and nuances, creating and using timelines, finding deeper meaning in the material, asking questions, then looking again and digging deeper. It is not a passive study and not about memorization as I believed at the beginning of the semester. History is about asking questions and looking for answers, not just accepting what is already there, but…
