“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” is a philosophy many strive to follow. This quote from Confucius is something we always heard growing up, especially in high school. In high school is when everyone says that you need to decide what your life goals and aspirations should be. If you asked what I wanted to be my freshman year of high school I said a pediatric nurse, my sophomore year I said an accountant, my junior year I decided I wanted to be a teacher, and then my senior year I decided that all I really wanted to be able to do was help people. I had no idea what I could do, but then I learned about social work. The beautiful thing about social work is there are many different things that I can do. …show more content…
While working at the daycare I saw the values of service, importance of human relationships, and competence. Service is very important because at the daycare we are providing the service of care so that the parents can go to work. We provide the service of education to the children. We prepare them so that they are ready to go to grade school. In the daycare we also valued the importance of human relationships. Since the children spent so much time at the daycare we had to have strong relationships with them and their parents. We have to have good relationships with the parents so that we can communicate to them how the children are doing and if anything happens to the children during the day. Another key value that is very important in both professions is competence. In social work the value of competence is to strive to increase your knowledge and apply it to the practice. The same goes to the daycare, we strived to learn more ways to teach the kids and better ways to teach those kids. I learned a lot about the importance of every person and how to work with those people. I learn this more and more everyday, and everyday I know that I want to be a social worker even more than the day
