My School Satire Story

Decent Essays
I chose the topic of treating schools as if they were prison because I think people do not care about their education anymore. I learned that the goal of satire is to point out the flaws of people or the society with some humor. The most difficult thing about the satire story was pointing out the disadvantage and making it into an advantage. I think I excelled in making an outrageous proposal. I think my finished product was some of my best work because I actually had interest in what I was writing so I put more effort toward

Samuel L. Jackson once said, “We’ve come a long way in our thinking, but also in our moral decay.” This quote holds true today as society stays rapidly changing and people become more and more desensitized to the horrors of the world. The line between right and wrong fades and turns to a larger gray area, and many things that happen in society today make us question how we, as a collective people, ended up where we are and how we acquired the customs we have today. Aldous Huxley, in his novel Brave New World, uses a great deal of satire and exaggeration to express his concerns for the society he was born into and bring attention to the problems of moral decay, drug dependency, and brainwashing, among other things, in the world.…

Occasionally I look back on my high school experience and realize I never did a keg stand at a party, I never skipped class to get stoned, and I also never got the guy I had a crush on for three years. Instead, I was studying for that AP government exam, standing in front of my fellow science club members talking about how we can restore our local creek, or working on hitting fastballs for softball. When I catch myself feeling as though I missed out on stereotypical high school or even college experiences I watch a movie not just any movie but a teen comedy. My ideal teen comedy has a group of friends who are about to graduate high school or already have that feel like they missed out on the clique high school experience, in order to gain some…

Satire has been used to criticize aspects of government, culture and people ever since it was first created in ancient times. Satire has made us laugh and find humor, but the real reason of satire is to criticize something. Satire can be lighthearted or serious, it just has the same purpose; to change something. Huckleberry Finn is a classic example of satire. Huckleberry Finn was created in part to satirize slavery and the evil of the south at that time.…

I asked myself, “How can I write a satire if I cannot think of a topic, and what if I do not like the topic I think of? What if I am so disconnected and alien that I have no feelings one way or the other? Oh god-I’m turning into Switzerland.” So, I was stuck in this situation: I need to write a whole paper in less than 3 hours; I have to think of my own topic, and apparently I am too much of a sociopath to have any sentiment toward what happened in Paris, how ISIS has literally declared war on France, how thousands of people have already died because of a couple hundred men who feel so passionately about their religion that they feel the need to blow themselves and others up as well as raid a vastly populated city and keep over 100 hostages and kill countless others. Then it hit me, all I needed to do was ask my schoolmates for all the topics that they have strong opinions about, and I would write about all of them to make up for my sociopathic…
