My school-based educational intervention was designed to create greater awareness of the risks of texting and driving. Using the Theory of Planned Behavior, teens who text and drive may have misperceptions towards their personal invulnerability (attitude) and may further have skewed motivations to participate in risky driving behaviors because of the value they put on perceived social norms. Any intervention strategy would first assess teens’ current attitudes and intentions towards participating in texting and driving through surveys. Surveying attitudes and intent prior to program implementation would provide a baseline comparison for future surveys.
