My Rube Goldberg Project

RGM Reflection My Rube Goldberg Machine is the PROTOTYPE-SR213. It accomplishes the simple task of lifting a cup. When I started brainstorming about the project, I wondered what I could do and how I could do it. When I finally came up with one idea, it was already time to make up two more ideas to pass the EDP. In the building stage, after I already chose what design I wanted to build, I made a bunch of changes. For one, I got rid of the part in the middle where a toy car rolled down a ramp, then hit another car, then hit a ball. I took that all out and I still had eight steps. Another change I made was instead of having a toy car roll down a ramp at the beginning, I changed it to a toy train down a bumpy hill of train tracks. I also used many Legos. I used it for my levers and my pulley instead of using a real pulley and wood levers. The one last big change was that I took away the screw and replaced it with a ramp. Those are the changes in my prototype phase. I encountered a lot of problems. One of which is measuring the Tetherball to hit …show more content…
When I finished the prototype, I realized that one of the platforms was too low and I switched it with something else. Another change I made was supporting the Legos more (they kept falling apart). The biggest change siliconing was everything down. The final design had to have everything pasted. Two more changes that I made to my machine are... I changed to a pulley at the end and I made the hole for the bar at the Tetherball smaller so the pole does not lean. A couple of my problems are that it was hard to make a basket that fit the ball at the end. The next problem I had was getting everything to work, not just one piece. My last problem was that in the beginning the lever had to fall enough so it did not get in the way of the ball but it had to have a big enough other side of the fulcrum that the train had enough power to make the lever

Inside our class textbook is a photograph of a Rube Goldberg machine. This is much like life.…

The poem "Rubik's Cube" by Benjamin Baker details the events that occurred between him and his grandfather beginning in his youth up until the grandfathers passing. The poem is a metaphor for the desperation he feels when he realizes he is unable to solve the problem of his grandfather succumbing to Alzheimer's, as easily as he was able to solve his Rubik's cube. "I try to shift the tiles back in place but people don't have center squares" (line 48-49). The shifting of the tiles is a representation of one failed method after another to resolve the grandfathers jumbled mind. As the poem progresses, the tone becomes increasingly more intense to indicate the destress he experiences as the grandfathers health continues to derail.…
