Some of the diseases are more complex and have adverse effects as compared to other diseases. As a nurse in post-anesthesia unit, one needs to ensure that patients who have been severely affected by the surgical process are given attention first (Zadock, 2010). Those who exhibit mild complications are attended after those who have severe complications have been attended, while those with minor complications come last in the list. Patients who exhibit complications in breathing and circulatory systems are attended first since these two systems play a great role in sustaining life. Other complications such as physical mobility and activity intolerance come last in the list of urgency in post anesthesia care unit.
Patient and Family Education Patient and family education plays a major role in surgical processes (Keat, Lanham & Bate, 2012). The strategy that I utilized incorporated direct conversation with the patient and his family. For example, in the case of the cholecystectomy patient, I advised the family members on the best diet that would help the patient in the recovery process. I also advised the family members on the need of the patient to follow all doctor’s instructions concerning medication. This played a major role in the healing process and in fact produced good results where the patient was able to recover within a short period of time.
