However, I still managed to stay on top of things in school because I have a great role model. My role model is my sister, Evelyn, who was the first person in our family to go to college. I saw her struggle and work hard to make her dreams become a reality, which is exactly what she did. She encouraged me to take all of the advanced courses offered to me which I did. I have taken Honors and AP/ College Prep courses to not only challenge myself but to be prepare myself for college as well. Although I had a busy schedule I still participated in extracurricular activities. I was a member of the National Honor Society which ran fundraisers and supported the student body. I saw and lived the struggle that my parents went through because they did not have the opportunity to have an education. They taught me the true value of hard work and the importance of pursuing an education, no matter the cost. My sister showed me that nothing was impossible so I plan on earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. I will then possibly search for employment in the oil and gas industry In hopes of researching and developing new technologies in this field. I am aware of my abilities and I believe that I can and will achieve anything that I set my mind to with my dedication and hard work. So I know that with this scholarship I’ll be one step closer to my goal. I hope that one day I can inspire other people as well. I’ll let them know that no matter what backgrounds they have, they can find their own success through hard work and the opportunities provided by an
