The United States of America has forever been a nation of immigrants. Native Americans were robbed of their land by European settlers hundreds of years ago and today, we all live in a multicultural country that is still facing trouble managing to get along with one another. The English, Spanish, and French all competed for the North American land and now, much of the colonization is embedded within American culture. Aside from that, the migrants that came after have also left their print from all over the world. Immigration to the U.S. has formed a unique society that not many other countries can compete with. Because much of the land that we live in today was colonized by European nations, there are principles that derived from ancient tradition.

Being that I am the daughter of two Mexican immigrants, I know how this country treats one who is not documented, poor and of color. I am aware of the issues and fears of being documented and having family who is not. I have been aware of class issues in America since I was a child, problems that many people do not come to understand until they are much older. One day, I wish to be a high school English teacher and I will teach novels from multiethnic authors from all over the world. There is more out there and it is my responsibility to rid of ignorance and raise awareness to keen topics. I think cultural interaction in the United States is progressing. Our youth are eager to learn and one must start with the child first before one can reach the adult. The children are the future and if they are educated, not only will this country thrive, but I am optimistic the world might as well. Being open minded is very significant to me and in my teachings, I hope to promote that because no one is entitled to more than anyone else and I believe all kids of color deserve the same opportunities. Unfortunately, this is not the case but one has to start somewhere to make a change and I am certain that it is our
