To be a cadet in the Coast Guard Academy, one must be a true leader; able to have a significant influence on others; able to resolve disputes; and contribute to group efforts over time. I have striven to further develop my leadership skills through my activities in and outside of school. I have been an assistant senior patrol leader for troop 893 to help assimilate new scouts in to the world of scouting. At Camp Olmsted, I was an assistant area director for the new scout program and was tasked to lead five other staff member when the area director was not around .The first glimpse that these kids have on scouting is crucial because it sets the tone for their future in scouting.
