Firstly, most people over the age of twenty-one are allowed to own a gun. According to Dana Bitto, journalist for University Wire sharing results from About.com, the U.S. has the highest gun ownership rate in the world with about 80 million Americans, or fifty percent of U.S. homes, own 223 million guns (Bitto). It only takes one crazy person to cause another mass killing, so we need to make sure we are properly equipped for it. Secondly, I feel safer in a home that I know has guns and know where they are. For example, before I went to Good Shepard this last time, I always had a loaded shotgun behind my door in its case and I always knew where the other guns in the house were. My mom has since then taken my shotgun and locked it up along with all the other guns to where I cannot get to them. I can honestly say I slept better with my shotgun in my room. Thirdly, with all the terrorism and mass shootings going on we need to arm ourselves for self-defense. According to U.S.A. Today writer John R. Lott “with just one exception, every public mass shooting in the U.S.A. since at least 1950 has taken place where citizens are banned from carrying guns. These nasty people committing these mass killings target the defenseless. I believe we should make it legal to bring a gun inside anywhere so maybe some of these shooters could have gotten what they deserved before they killed so many people.
